Our sweet baby girl was born May 7th, 2014 at 5:26am
weighing 6lbs 15oz, 19 in long.
I was a week passed my due date and it was induction day!
i had a balloon put in my cervix to get me started (my body is slow to get babies out)
with johnny i had medication to get me started and my Dr felt that it contributed to the bleeding i had so he thought this would be a more natural way to kick start labor with out really doing much.
So Tuesday May 6th i got the balloon in the afternoon and then came home and hung out, had dinner and had really mild contractions. (i had an induction appt at the hospital at 6am the next morning)
i went to bed around midnight. i woke up at 1:30am with some uncomfortable contractions, i took a bath and laid down in bed a started timing them. 2-3 minutes apart and lasting about a minute. i got up and got dressed, woke jake up and said we should probably get going soon. he then took a nice long shower while i was walking around our sleepy apartment. i woke my mom up to tell her we were leaving, She was here to be on Johnny duty.
we got to the hospital at 4:00am and for some very strange reason it took an hour to check me in! they knew i was coming, but were somewhat unprepared. while waiting and having to answer questions and get my blood drawn (i walked in requesting drugs!) the contraction started getting really bad, and were ontop of each other. i would get them in clusters of 3 or 4 and then have about a 2 minute break and then they would spike again.
i finally said i needed a Doctor to come in cause i was in serious pain (the deep moaning started that i didn't even know i could do..) they said they could get a midwife for me and i promptly and sternly said "no, I'm a real Doctor kind of person. i need a Doctor" so the on call Doctor came in and asked how i was and i told her i was pretty uncomfortable and very ready for my epidural. and i wanted the balloon out if she could take it out. she had a shocked look on her face and said "oh, i was told it was out. we need to get that out." and then scolded the nurse. so when she took it out it was 5:00am and i was at 5cm. after she took it out i jumped up out of the bed my back hurt so bad, and the contractions almost doubled in pain. i had to sway back and forth and just moan. i looked at the nurse and asked if the epidural had been ordered yet and she said they had to wait to get the blood work back from the lab. i then told the nurse i needed some one to check me cause i had the urge to push. she just looked at me like i was crazy and continued to fill out my info on the computer. i asked for the Doctor to please come back in and check me. when she did i was at 10cm! i kept saying "but i don't have the epidural, this went too fast!" she started setting up and then looked at the nurse and said quietly said "cancel the anestheiolgist" i immediately said "no, you can't. i cant do this natural. i not prepared for this. my friends had natural births and prepared for months! i don't even know how to breath right!" the Doctor just said, well your going to have to do it. she went out of the room to tell the anesthesiologist not to come (he was running down the hall way) while she went out no one was by me except for jake and i said i have to push, i couldn't control it. so i pushed! while the dumb nurse just shrugged her shoulder and said "ok, you can try." and continued on her computer. with that first push my water broke and the Doctor ran back in, and i pushed for a second time and Millie was out! at 5:26am!
i went from 5cm to 10cm, and delivered all in 26 minutes.
jake and i were in total shock! it went so fast but each contraction felt like forever. jake had to hold me in the bed while they would spiked cause my back hurt so bad i was crawling out. and at one point jake was laughing because i was making a "not natural noise" haha i had no way of gaining control of the situation, i was so mentally and emotional unprepared for it all.
i will say the Doctor i had was great, she was very calm which i needed cause i was pretty much freaking out the last 15 minutes befor millie was born.
we also didn't even have any of our bags or camera. luckily i had my phone to take some decent pictures of millie when she was first born. but that was it! we thought we would have a few hours to get settled and wait for things to happen.
my mom and dad came around 10:00am while jake went home to check on johnny and get him ready to meet his sister. and jakes mom came around 11:00am and spent the whole day with us.
when johnny came in it was so cute to watch him hold her and talk softly and say how cute she was. it lasted for a good 5 minutes and then he was over it and wanted to play with the new truck millie gave him.
that night jake stayed at the hospital with me and my mom was home with johnny. when we woke up the next day they told us we could go, and we had all passed our tests to be released! thank goodness! the hospital doesn't have a nursery so babies stay in the room with the parents which means no rest, so no point to be in the hospital. (i got 2 full nights of sleep when i had johnny)
so i showered and got dressed and jake got our things together and we checked out at noon.
when we got home jake headed straight to class and i was with my mom and 2 kids! it was a weird feeling all of a sudden. 2 kids!
then kerry, austin and cedar came down from NP to see us! it was so fun. they stayed and had dinner and loved on millie. it was really fun to have them come see us, and it meant a lot.
We love our little Amelia.
she's very sweet, and calm.
its amazing how the love you have just grows with each new baby.
